Weight

The Durston X-Mid Pro is considered one of the best on the market for through hikers, with a weight of 595-655 grams (without groundsheet). The Dyneema® composite fabrics (DCF) material makes this tent durable for its weight and able to stand up to New Zealand’s windy and rainy conditions. The DCF also has the added bonus of being quick to dry, which is essential in the moist New Zealand conditions!

The tent uses Dyneema® composite fabrics (DCF) and also works with your own hiking poles, which keeps the overall weight down to 595 grams (DCF floor) or 655 grams (Silnylon floor) for the tent, sack, and six stakes. If you decide to add poles, you’re looking at 2 x 88 grams and an additional 135 grams for a groundsheet. Overall, this is still the lightest 2-person tent around.

The X-Mid Pro is built to be durable, starting with industry leading Dyneema® composite fabrics (DCF) that are pre-shrunk to ensure the shape of the tent remains stable over time. Durston prides themselves in doing things to a high standard and have designed the shape of the X-Mid Pro 2 with thoughtful geometric design to give you heaps of space and minimize weight, all while ensuring there are no areas where rain, snow or wind can catch. Durston hot bond all seams to make them more durable.

Dyneema® composite fabrics (DCF) is extremely waterproof due to its laminate structure. It also doesn’t retain water and will dry much much faster than the common alternative, silnylon. Durston have also thought of heaps of additional features, which make this tent super rain proof: the single-walled protected pitch means rain will never get inside while you’re setting up. The doorways are protected, even when the door is open. The fly provides full coverage against rain platters and wind draft. And multiple vents help keep the condensation out for quicker drying in the mornings when you’re ready to go!

Compared with other lightweight two-person tents, Durston claims the X-Mid Pro has 20-35% more interior volume. The patented geometric design is intended to give extra head clearance, while also leaving room for gear storage inside. Additionally, the design leads to steeper walls overall, so the overall space you can use is much more than most tents.

The X-Mid Pro is the most comfortable tent out there for its weight class. Starting with an easy pitch of just 4 stakes and two hiking poles, the tent has steep walls which make the interior incredibly spacious for those rainy days you are stuck inside. Everything is designed for ease of use including magnetic door holds and zippers that are easy to use in cold weather, and a tensioned floor which makes it easy to set everything up without causing heaps of wrinkles in the floor. This tent is quick to dry, easy to pack up, and completely uncomplicated.
