The Marmot Hydrogen is one of the best ultralight options on the market. Made from 800-fill-power goose down with eco-friendly ExpeDRY water-repellent finish, this sleeping bag comes in at 720 grams. Designed for thru-hikers, the Marmot Hydrogen includes a durable water-repellent (DWR), which sheds light rain and snow and keeps you dry in temperatures as low as -5°C. Marmot has focused on durability and consistent heating by designing the sleeping bag to have curved baffles that prevent the down from shifting. This sleeping bag is durable and light and definitely one of the best on the market!
Weight
The Marmot Hydrogen is made from 800-fill-power goose down with eco-friendly ExpeDRY water-repellent finish, which keeps the bag light while also keeping it dry – key to maintaining its warmth. Marmot have also minimised weight by offering a mummy design with a 1/3rd zipper but have allowed for more ventilation by providing a 2n zipper. This design comes in at 720 grams.
Temperature Rating
This sleeping bag is rated at a comfort temperature of 1°C, a limit temperature of -1°C, and an extreme/max limit temperature of -5°C. Marmot has had its temperature ratings tested to the optimal ISO-tested ratings,

The Marmot Hydrogen uses certified 800-fill-power goose down, which slightly higher than the ideal you’d want for walking Te Araroa.
Material
The Marmot Hydrogen stands out as having one of the best weight to warmth ratios on the market, and the Pertex Quantum outer fabric plays a large role in that. The fabric is designed to trap still air and improve the efficiency of insulation. Marmot have added even more protection to the down with a durable water-repellent (DWR) finish that helps keep it dry.
Comfort
The Marmot Hydrogen is one of the most well-thought-out sleeping bags on the market. Simplicities such as a pocket for your flashlight, an anti-snag slider on main zipper add an extra level of comfort, and a second zipper so you can add ventilation make this sleeping bag luxury while you’re out there on the trail. Similar to other sleeping bags, Marmot have secured the down with a wrap-around baffle construction that helps make the heating consistent throughout the entire sleeping bag.
