The Zpacks Arc Haul Ultra are considered one of the best on the market for through hikers, with a weight of 566-641 grams depending on bag capacity. The Ultra 100X material makes this pack more durable than comparably light packs, and also able to handle a high carrying capacity of up to 40lbs. The pack is waterproof and seam sealed, making it ideal for New Zealand’s weather.
Weight
The pack uses Ultra 100X lightweight fabric and also has a carbon fiber frame which keeps the medium 50L pack down to 21.4 oz / 606 grams (50L Medium).
Durability
Ultra 100X is their 2nd generation fabric which is 50% thicker and more durable with an “X” grid on the interior that makes it have extremely high tear and abrasion resistance. All Zpacks gear have a two-year limited warranty against defects in materials or workmanship.
Rain Protection
The Ultra 100X fabric features a woven Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) face fabric laminated to a waterproof backing. Roll-top closure keeps water out, and lets you roll down the top as your gear load shrinks. All seams and attachment points are taped, making the pack highly water resistant, though they still suggest using dry bags for your important items like your sleeping bag.
Space Capacity
Both Unisex and Women packs are available from 40L to 70 L and can carry up to 40 lbs (18 kg).
Comfort
The Carbon Fiber frame is curved so that airflow is possible while also keeping the pack stiff so that most weight is carried on the hips instead of the shoulders. The belt is attached directly to the bottom of the pack frame for the best load transfer, and wide padded contoured shoulder and belt straps allow for a bit more comfort.
